Facebook has introduced its new official live video channel called Facebook Live for official news streams, press events, and special “celebrity events.” According to Facebook, the service will be mainly used for the following events:
- When privileged guests stop by Facebook, you can hook up with them and experience the thrill
- When Facebook introduces a new feature and you can learn directly from the Facebook employees who developed it and ask them questions
- Every Special event at Facebook can be watched live globally
What’s more, Facebook Live application can be attached to any Facebook page. You can also link directly to the live stream with their dedicated URL shortner livestre.am and post via Twitter or Google Buzz. Livestream is their official live video partner for the channel, with full cross-promotion.
The interface for the social network is easy to use. The video can be seen on the center-left, showing how many viewers are watching the streaming video. A widget on the right side allows the user to take advantage of many features. You can see who is currently watching the video, see if your friends are watch too and automatically update your status to show that you are watching, chat with others who are watching the video and ask questions related to the video.
The new service was launched by actress America Ferrera at Facebook’s headquarters in Palo Alto, California and used Facebook Live to talk about her new movie, “The Dry Land,” a Sundance Film Festival entry. So, thanks to Facebook Live as Ferrera’s film will be getting much more attention from 500 million or so Facebook users.
